Back in 2022, Joshua Churchill, and partner Lily, welcomed their first child, Agnes, into the world. Motivated by becoming a father, Josh decided to pursue his dreams as an avid woodworker and sustainable design enthusiast, and started Foon.
The name 'Foon' came about when their daughter started to talk. As all children do, she struggled with pronunciation, and often came out with some hilarious sounds. One ordinary day, all three of them sat down for breakfast, 'bessed' as their daughter called it. She picked up her spoon to start eating, and, just before taking a mouthful, the sound 'foon' came out. Ever since, a spoon has been affectionately known as a 'foon' in their house.
At the start, Josh’s vision for Foon was to design and sell homeware items that were kind to the planet and used natural, sustainable materials - mostly wood.
Along the way, Josh began to think more carefully about what products he was using to finish and care for his wooden creations; particularly what he was then bringing into his family's home. He started to learn that the products he was using contained some pretty nasty toxic chemicals. He wanted to find alternatives to conventional wood finishes and polishes that were natural, non-toxic, but also smelled great.
So, Josh started experimenting with all natural ingredients to finish and care for his wooden creations. He stripped everything back to the basics, and has created, what he thinks is, the perfect wood finish and polish.
Inspired by traditional woodworking practices, Foon’s wood finish and polish is perfect for the environmentally conscious home.
